This toon is late. However, I have made the Thursday deadline by at least 10 minutes.  This toon is based on an influx of donated IT equipment. While we appreciate the thought of people, usually the equipment is ancient. I have a hard time getting rid of old equipment and the piles keep getting higher. We can usually tell the difference between people donating stuff for the right reason and just dumping it on us to get rid of. Sometimes that is a fine line. A good sign they are just dumping it when they swing by and just drop it off at the reception desk and run.

  I need to get rid of some of the equipment but I don’t know if I’m strong enough. We will see.

   This started off as a 4 panel toon. After an hour and a half Manga Studio crashed on me. Of course I didn’t save. So to save time I made it a one panel and had to push the dialog lay out a bit.

   Really the only 2 things that will get me yelling at the TV, sports and the news. What on TV makes you yell.

I actually think it is lovely that both of my kids love to play catch with me. They are ready any time to go play. It is good exercise and is a lot of fun. The girls both throw and catch well because of the time we spend together playing ‘monkey in the middle’. The only bad thing for me is I’m out of shape and fat. So it doesn’t take long until I’m suffering and call a time out.

I’m still doing the mentor program with Krishna Sadasivam, creator of www.pcweenies.com fame. Check the latest critique he did on my last assignment here.  Frankly, I’m finding out how bad I am at this art stuff. That said I am learning. The toon above I have incorporated what I’ve learned so far. I’m trying and learning. I think the truth is like I’ve been told, as an artist I’m a good writer.

   The IT office where I work is very proficient. We do get a lot of work done and we have a lot of fun. I used to say the various toys in my office where for the kids of co-workers when they stop by. I no longer say that, they are for me and my enjoyment. We have so many great places to play at work and the gym is awesome for flying helicopters, so it’s not like I have a choice.

   This toon is sort of  late because I forgot to upload and scedule it last night, Oops.

Cathy’s chemo is kicking her butt. The pattern seems to be about 6 days of being sick then she feels better. Although her “better” does not include a lot of energy. So while she really wanted to go see our many friends at church, she simply did have the energy. So it was just going to be me and the girls. Since I’m not exactly a morning my person myself I came up with the above tactic. Offering up donuts got everyone moving rapidly. Not only did we have time enough for donuts we got to church very early. It was cool watching the music guys getting ready.

I think as bad as donuts can be, it may be the way to be on  time to church every week. I’m just hoping Cathy can come with us next time.

   My wife has it tough. Not only does she have 2 daughters like I do, she has a third child…..ME! This toon is basically a slice of our lives. In my defense my wife needed to get some groceries and the best I could do was get the girls out of the way. So we were going through the store cutting up. Apparently, we were a little loud because Cathy could hear us across the store. We had fun and Cathy got all the things she needed. She was actually a good sport and was amused by our shenanigans.

   Oh I made a mistake. I mentioned to Cathy how it would be funny when people mentioned her hair, she should take off her wig. Since then she has done that at least three times. She still looks cute but it is a shock to see her bald, especially if they were not aware she is going through chemo. It’s a funny joke but her poor poor victims. She did it Monday morning to one of my co-workers and the poor lady jumped. This was even after my cartoon. We also sold girl school cookies at work. This cartoon combines my yearly GS cookie toon and “Cathy’s ” wig joke. As an update on Cathy, she has her 3rd chemo treatment on Wednesday and only 5 after that. After chemo the last 2 times has been rough on her system. We are hoping it continues getting easier and the cancer is getting its butt kicked.

   My buddy Sam came to visit me at work and met some of my co-workers. One of the facilities guys asked were we the same age. I protested because we are not even close to the same age, him being all old and all. We are really about 4 years a part. he is about to turn 51 in February and I turned 47 last December. Neither of us are grown up despite our ages.

   I asked my wife if I could do as cartoon like this. She is a good sport and has a great attitude. She handled losing her hair better than I can imagine anyone would have. She still looks like her to me and I was always fond of her face. Drawing Cathy always makes me wish I was a better artist. I never draw her as pretty as she is. I also got my head shaved when she did. They encouraged her to shave it once it started. It seems it can sap your confidence when you wake up to clumps of hair. Many people have commented on how great it was for me to get my hair cut with her, I don’t see it that way. To me it was really a small matter and just a very small token of my love. We even had fun doing it.

  I’m actually fairly pleased with how the art came out for once.  I’m trying to change and tweak a few things. One big step was I was one of two cartoonist selected by Krishna Sadasivam for a cool offer he made. Krishna is the cartoonist behind www.pcweenies.com. He offered to mentor 2 cartoonists. We were to submit a small essay on the matter and I was picked. I’m looking forward to it. We have been given our first assignment due  wednesday. It is to do 3 drawing a person displaying three emotions but we can’t draw a face. So it had to be body language. Krishna will critique and make suggestions on each assignment. Krishna also teaches art. He has always been a good resource but has recently started giving back more than normal. I find his suggestions helpful and to have him directly help me be a better artist is exciting. I’ll let you know how I do.
