Commercialism Of Christmas

Commercialism Of Christmas

It’s that time of year again for the start of Christmas shopping. It seems to get earlier every year. I started seeing Christmas trees and ornaments around Halloween. I do love Christmas but it is easy to forget the reason for the season. At least I have not heard the normal rhetoric about “The War On Christmas”. There is no war on Christmas. If a store chooses to say “happy holidays and that offends you, go shop somewhere else. That’s the free market.

  Anyway, happy shopping all.

    I want a USB Nativity scene! I like blinky-light-shiny things! :-)

Of course the same goes with if a store says “Merry Christmas” and that offends you, you can also go shop somewhere else. I think some people get up in the morning looking for something to get offended about. I usually accidentally oblige them.

I don’t believe there is an orchestrated war on Christmas conspiracy. What I believe is that the majority of our culture celebrates a Christmas that has absolutely nothing to do with Christ. The commercialism we have built around it is just one more aspect of it.

Yeah, I’m with ya on this, business have totally ruined Christmas and commercialized everything…I don’t think I’m gonna step thru their doors this holiday season….but you better believe I’ll be hittin’ ‘em up online. :)

Christmas has always been a wonderful and special time of they year. You know, I’ve been in those meetings in the past where they warn us to not say “Merry Chirstmas” and ask us to make sure our employees in our departments know this. Well I always took the same approach each year…I nodded my head, smiled at them during the speech but then told my staff…”Just say whatever you feel comfortable saying.” Even an atheist will say Merry Christmas back to ya if you say it nicely, their not gonna sue ya so if Happy Holidays is your thing…say Happy Holidays….for me, I prefer to give every one a Happy Festivus and just watch their reactions. :) Me and my family always wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and we know the reason for the season and celebrate Jesus birth with our friends and family every year. No commercialization of the Holiday by stores is gonna ever take that special feeling out of our hearts, it just takes some green from our pocket books.

So if I run into you at Frys, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, or where ever you pursue your Christmas goodies and I wish you a Merry Christmas feel free to give me what ever salutation you wish to in return. After all we’re all after that same thing this season….and if you get to it before me you will have one heck of a fight on your hands. :) Happy Thanksgiving.
