Wow! This toon took longer than any other toon. I actually would have like to have done it a bit better but I just was too tired to keep going. I’ve never worked so hard on a toon, yet still feel it is a bit incomplete.
This weekend we took the girls to see the Cowgirl Roundup in Royce City Texas. http://www.barsarena.com/cowgirl.htm It was fun watching the ladies compete. They were all very skilled riding. The toon is from an actual conversation I over heard. It just hit me funny thinking about these tough as nail ladies still worried about their boots being cute. My oldest daughter has recently being getting serious about riding so it was great for her see the event.

The artwork in this one is one of your best so far I think, Barry, good job. I like how dynamic and different all panels feel, it’s like real people standing around and changing positions and such just like in real life. I’d like to see you do more line variation and such, though.
Thanks sir. I appreciate the kind words. Good point on the lines, I’ll see what I can do about that. I’m old but still learning. I sure wish I had stuck with art all the way from high school, instead of coming back to it years later. But I do love it, good or not.
I love the way the people on horses look… they actually look like they’re *on* a *horse* (something I’ve never managed to get right T_T).
But if the tough-as cowgirls talking about cute shoes surprises you, you’re still learning about the womens, huh! Some of the most hard-core power lifters, intense athletes, and full-on geeks I know are also amongst the most (stereotypically) girly-girly girls I’ve ever met…
I love horseback riding. When I was a child I saved up for a long time and bought an older horse. It was an Appaloosa and I loved it for its last years of life. I’m pretty sure she was happy when she finally died of old age. I know I was happy to have had a chance to ride her in the hills. I hope your girls get a chance to ride sometime – it’s great!
At least cowboys aren’t that fashion concious, by the way, have you seen my cool new boots and hat?
