You may or may not know, I work as the IT director of a large church in North Texas. My department budgets for all needs of all the ministries and like any organization the IT budget is limited. The various departments always have great ideas how to spend my budget. I have to look at each request and decide where we can help and where we can’t. Over time I admit I have gotten a bit jaded with some of the more frivolous requests. The problem with my attitude sometimes is that I can miss real needs. Today’s cartoon is not based on real situation but I’ve had similar situations. Sometimes when someone presents their case to me and on the inside I’m rolling my eyes. Every once in a while as I listen I find myself being embarrassed as the need is a very good cause.
It is too easy for me to get caught up in the business side of the church and forget there is real ministry taking place. Whether you are a fan of church in general or not I hope you know there are some great things done by these organizations. It is a struggle for me and others to stretch dollars and have the most impact. After all it’s not our money our money comes from the offering plates.
I’m not completely happy about the dialog but hope the idea comes across. Don’t be surprised if the text changes at some point which is the beauty of doing my comic online.
Great comic with a great point. People do need to see your side of things though. Every church program or idea that comes up is not always practical or worthy of support. I guess that is why we need to pray about these things.
