While I’m not a big fan of Apple I have been following the buzz about the iPad. It does look very cool but as I suspected the price is going to be high. There are similar products out there but none will do the same thing with the style of Apple. I’ll be interested to see if anyone can come out with a comparable product that crushes Apples asking price. I have seen the articles the Freescale $200 touch screen tablet and I know other models exists but have not taken off yet. We’ll see if Apple can make it work and there are those who will buy whatever Apple makes. I was really hoping they would release a pen based Mac Book tablet and I would so be in. I have never understood the fact that Apple thinks a tablet Mac Book is to limited of a market. Most real artist I know have Macs and would jump at one myself and I’m no fan-boy. I believe in the right tool for the right job. At my job the average user is best suited for a PC while our graphics department is best suited for Macs. My biggest single issue with APple is the price point. Now they are on the same basic architecture I don’t understand why they are still so much more expensive. My money just goes further with PCs and I work for a non-profit so I have to make my money count.
Now word about fan-boys. Not all Mac users are fan-boys and it is a term that has been over used, as noted by my friend Ross. He is an Apple fan but has drake no Kool-aid that I’m aware of. Apple makes great products but they have issues and problems like any PC manufacture. You can tell fan-boys by the fact they cannot admit there are any faults with any Apple product. I most enjoy fan-boys that go on tech boards about PCs, most of their responses are “should have bought a Mac”. You also see them pop up when any article is less than flattering about Apple. If Apple is so great do they really need so many defenders. Again so you don’t get me wrong I like Apple a lot I just wish they were more affordable. PCs sure have their issues but my account with Dell gets them out to my office to fix my PCs on the same day. The last time we needed a Mac fix we had to make an appointment and it was going to be 3 days to talk to a genius. we ended up coming up with the solution ourselves before our appointment. One Of The other advantages to PCs for me is I Can have a user up and running on a spare in a short time whereas I cannot afford to have spare Macs so my Macs users are down longer, and yes it does happen.
In conclusion: 1. Apple makes great stuff but have too high a markup. 2. I wish Apples iPad was a true tablet for artists. 3. Fan-boys and Apple power users are two different groups.
So now let’s wait and see if this 3rd product that sits between a cellphone and a computer will make it or if people will stick to the two established models. Personally I don’t want to carry more devices so I just wish it was a touch screen “real” PC. I personally love my touchscreen tablet, it’s not as stylish as an Apple but it does the job.

I really like apples. I like oranges and bananas too though and I’m not sure that either one has helped my computing.
