I have been writing some vbs scripts, well fumbling through more like. The scripts install and map the new printers we have. While installing these printers does not take a lot of time the true idea is so that our users can easily install the new printer drives themselves. There are a couple of issues but mostly is works.
It saves us a small amount of time, but it took a lot of time originally to piece together the scripts. Now though I only need to do a short edit on the scripts. So in the long run it does help out but it is ironic it takes so long to save a few seconds. However, if you add a lot of seconds together it is worthwhile. The best part is that users can help themselves. I mostly hope it can free up the IT department. We are extremely busy as we just opened a new children’s building and there are many changes yet to occur on the network and our equipment. On top of everything else we are adding a new fleet of printers. The new printers are faster and have more features and will cost less to operate. That said there is a lot to making sure everyone can use them in every department. Besides adding drivers we also have department codes to set up.
It might be worth your time. There are a lot less combinations to mess something up with one click than there are 7 clicks.
