Are You Finished That Yet?

Are You Finished That Yet?

Our standard answer to users is usually “Have you rebooted yet?”. A very close second is “Have you opened a ticket yet?”.  I know many of our users think it is a control thing but what they don’t understand is we have a lot of hallway conversations. These conversations are deep and even though we ask people to open tickets they don’t and they think we will remember the conversation. We never remember. We never remember. We never remember. So sometimes we have follow up conversations like the toon. I can actually think of about 5 things people have asked me about and asked for a ticket, and I’m still waiting.

The ticket system we have is crude but effective. With 3 of us in IT during the week it comes in handy. At a glance we can see what issues are still pending.

So one last time to my users, please reboot first and if you are still having the issue then open a ticket. Maybe I should just get a sign to carry around.

By the way I’m putting the final touches on my book. I still need a few more pages of original content that won’t be posted here on the website. Mostly it’ll be the best of 2009′s toons. To keep the costs down the book will only be 60 pages and it’ll be mostly black and white with a few pages of color. Krishna M. Sadasivamover at pcweenies.com has designed the cover for me and it looks awesome! I’m getting excited to do the first small run. If the demand is good I’ll do another run then start working on a new book in 2010. I will sell on this site and at future comic expos. If you are interested let me know and maybe the first printing will be expanded. At this time the price will be around $12, not including shipping. But first I guess I’ll have to finish it first though.

    Yay!

Been there done that got the proverbial. Nowadays my answer tends to be a slight variant when asked this question…

They ask “can you do x” and I say “will get round to it on Monday” (or whatever day you want to use) and then when challeneged the following Tuesday why you didn’t simply answer “I didn’t say which Monday”. Ta daaa. I’ve neverceased to be amazed that these folks never ssk me in the hall again. If you have a junior with you, they need training too … so as you wander away whisper the same magic words to them …!

It’s like training dogs. With some they get it straight away whilst others need to be encouraged to do the right thing.
