Working The Web Comic Expo

Working The Web Comic Expo

This last Saturday was the Dallas Webcomic Expo. This was my first expo of any kind as an exhibitor. It was great I got to meet my webcomic buddy Samantha Wikan of Witchytech.com and she was every bit as cool in person, actually even more so. My wife and daughters loved meeting her andher husband Mike. I shared a table with Brian Powers of liltoon.com and it was fun getting to know him a little bit better.

I did manage to work of the nerve and go speak to Scott Kurtz of pvponline.com fame. There many well know cartoonists there and I’ll write more on that later. One of the coolest experiences was meeting the creators of twolumps.net , I was given some excellent advice and insights.

I actually sold a few things, signed a few things, and gave away many of my mini-comics. I had several people stop by who said they have seen my site so that was very cool. I mostly took in the sites andsounds. I really should have moved around the room and met more people but I could not work up the nerve. Brian did a great job networking and I know Samantha did a great job of meeting many people. In fact Samantha knocked me out of 2nd favorite webcomic of my daughters. I’m happy to even be in third place and figure I’ll drop down many more places as the teen years approach

The best person at working the room by far was my daughter Grace. She went around the room getting all the free stuff and autographs she could get. She even made some fan art for the folks at the Little Vampires table, see there site at http://lunasea-studios.com/

Nothin’ like usin’ the kids to promote your website. My grandson is my greatest promoter and as soon as his friends get old enough to get on the internet I’m sure my audience will increase. Glad you had a good time at the Expo. Enjoyed reading about it.

It was AMAZING to meet you and your crew. I promise not to hire the girls away from you to be MY marketing department, but I will mention that I have cookies…hear that, Girls? CooOooOookiessssss….

Most of the people I had the nerve to say “hey” to are those that I “know” from twitter, a forum, or the Sketch Out. (Did you read about my flub when meeting Scott Kurtz? Hahahah)

Looking forward to hearing more details from DWEX, Barry. Loved the strip today :)

Met you at DWEX–I doubt you remember me from the masses but I was they guy who wanted to buy a t-shirt but you didn’t have them big enough so you gave me a mousepad instead. I finally managed to get caught up with your awesome comic and even turned my boss onto it. Working in IT also, there are several of your comics that we just have to facepalm and groan because it’s just so true :)

Rex, I remember you well. You had the really cool sideburns. Thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear other IT folks relating to the toons. Being in IT I know you know I’ll never run out of material.
